Coast Guard medevacs woman from Carnival Elation cruise ship near Venice

U.S. Coast Guard New Orleans SAR DemoNEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 74-year-old woman from the Carnival Elation cruise ship near Venice, Saturday morning.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the cruise ship regarding a passenger who reportedly suffered a heart attack. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 2:45 a.m., hoisted the patient and flew her to West Jefferson Medical Center for further medical care. The crew safely transferred the woman to the medical center at 3:30 a.m. in reportedly stable condition.
