Coast Guard medevacs woman from Afognak Island

KODIAK, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak based MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew medevaced a 64-year-old resident of Afognak Island to Kodiak Friday afternoon.

The victim was reportedly suffering from a possible stroke when her family called the 17th District Command Center at 9:45 a.m., requesting the medevac.

The helicopter crew was diverted from a training mission, landed in Afognak about 11:50 a.m., and transferred the victim to awaiting emergency medical services in Kodiak.

The victim was reportedly taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in stable condition.
