Coast Guard medevacs woman 300 miles south of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a woman from a cruise ship approximately 300 miles south of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston, received a call from crewmen aboard the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy reporting a 50-year-old woman required a medical evacuation at approximately 1 p.m.

The case was transferred to the Eighth District Command Center in New Orleans and an MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter and crew and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed wing aircraft and crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., were launched to medevac the woman.

The patient was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.  Her condition is unkown.
