SAN PEDRO, Calif. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced an injured crewmember from a Navy destroyer offshore of Palos Verdes, Saturday night.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach was notified of a 20-year-old crewmember who had sustained a leg injury aboard the USS Spruance (DDG-111), a Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, watchstanders dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Mugu to transport the individual to a hospital.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember and transported him to Torrance Airport where he was taken to Torrance Memorial Medical Center by EMS.
He was last reported to be in stable condition.
