SAN DIEGO — An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a cruise ship passenger who suffered a possible heart attack approximately 40 miles northwest of San Diego early Saturday morning.
The crew of the cruise ship Westerdam contacted the Joint Harbor Operation Center just before 11 p.m., Friday, requesting a medevac for the 75-year-old Canadian man.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac. The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene and hoisted the patient and the ship’s nurse into the aircraft.
The crew transported the man to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care just after 1 a.m.
