Coast Guard medevacs NOAA crewmember near Carrabelle, Fla.

C-130 & MH-60ARRABELLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel 60 miles southeast of Carrabelle, Wednesday.

Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Alabama, received a call at 6:20 p.m. from the master of the NOAA research vessel, Caretta, stating that a crewmember was in need of emergency medical attention. A flight surgeon was contacted and recommended the man be medevaced.

An HC-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft crew from Air Station Clearwater, Florida, was diverted and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, also from the air station, was launched.

At 10:15 p.m. the helicopter crew arrived on scene hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa (Florida) General Hospital; he was reported to be in stable condition.
