NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man in Lake Pontchartrain near the HWY 11 bridge Saturday.
At 3:15 p.m., watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Command Center received a phone call from a women reporting her husband was on a pleasure craft in Lake Pontchartrain requesting medical assistance.
The watchstanders contacted the man, who reported symptoms of heat exhaustion, as well as back and chest pain. A 25-foot response boat and crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station New Orleans diverted to the scene and assisted the mariner to awaiting EMS at Oak Harbor Marina, near Slidell.
The National Weather Service has isssued a heat advisory for all of south Lousiana through Sunday.
“All mariners should take extra precautions when venturing out on the water this weekend,” said Lt. Brian Sattler, the assistant chief of Sector New Orleans. “Extra water, sunblock and limiting exposure to direct sunlight can help in reducing the risk heat related injuries.”
