Coast Guard medevacs mariner from vessel off Cape Blanco, Ore

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend safely transported the mariner from the 41-foot fishing vessel, Bess Chet, to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend directed the launched of the Dolphin crew after receiving a request for assistance over marine VHF-FM radio from the vessel’s master around 2:48 p.m. The aircrew safely hoisted the patient and delivered him to emergency medical personnel.

“The rapid response of both the vessel’s master and Coast Guard members ensured this mariner received the medical care he needed,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Mike Aspiras, a communications watchstander at Sector North Bend. “Saving lives is one of the oldest Coast Guard missions. We are always on watch, ready to respond to a call for help when needed.”
