Coast Guard Medevacs Man Southeast of Charleston Harbor

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew medically evacuated a man aboard a 97-foot passenger vessel approximately 44-miles southeast of Charleston Harbor, Tuesday at 1:39 p.m.

Henry Mizell, 75, residence unknown, was aboard the passenger ship Thunderstar when he began experiencing chest pains. The ship’s owner contacted Coast Guard Sector Charleston on VHF channel 16 to request assistance. Coast Guard Sector Charleston then requested assistance from a Coast Guard Air Station Savannah helicopter in the area to medevac the man.

The aircrew diverted to the scene and safely hoisted the man from the vessel in 15-foot seas. Mizell was then taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
