Coast Guard medevacs man off tugboat in Southwest Pass

NEW ORLEANS – Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans medevaced a 69-year-old man off a tugboat in Southwest Pass, near Venice, La., Monday.

The Eighth Coast Guard District command center here received a call at approximately 9 a.m. from a crewman aboard the tugboat, Trevor Weeks, stating that the captain of the vessel was experiencing heart attack-like symptoms and requested a medevac.

An MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans were diverted from a training mission to medevac the man. They safely hoisted him at approximately 10 a.m., and transported him to Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans in Belle Chase, La., where he was met by local emergency medical technicians and taken to Ochsner Medical Center Westbank.
