Coast Guard medevacs man near South Padre Island

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced a 63-year-old man at the entrance to the Brownsville Ship Channel near South Padre Island, Texas, Tuesday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a report that a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel Marques was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

A Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew was launched to the scene.

The crew of the RB-M transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Station South Padre Island.

Weather on scene was reported as 3-foot seas with 23-mph winds.
