OREGON INLET, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 22-year-old man Wednesday from a charter boat near Walter Slough Junction in Pamlico Sound.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington received notification at approximately 11 a.m. stating a passenger aboard the charter boat Crystal Dawn out of Pirate’s Cove became disoriented.
A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water boat crew and 29-foot Rescue Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet launched at approximately 11:05 a.m. and arrived on scene at approximately 11:12 a.m. The boat crews medevaced the man and arrived at Station Oregon Inlet at approximately 11:30 a.m. where the man was examined and released by local EMS personnel.
“We had good communication and teamwork while transferring the gentleman to our boat and good communication with the captain of the Crystal Dawn,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Colin Joyce, a coxswain during the case. “We’re proud of the team effort that occurred today.”
