MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 54-year-old man from aboard a boat 16 miles southeast of Manasquan Saturday.
The Coast Guard received a call at 11:33 a.m. from a crewmember aboard the dive boat Independence reporting a diver was experiencing tingling in his right wrist after ascending too quickly during a dive.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet, N.J., arrived on scene and a crewmember who was an emergency medical technician boarded the boat and began taking the 54-year-old man’s vitals.
The rescue boat crew escorted the dive boat and its crew back to the station with the emergency medical technician aboard the Independence.
The diver was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel and transported to Ocean Medical Center of Ocean County in Brick, N.J., and transferred aboard a helicopter. The man was transported to the University of Pennsylvania for treatment with a decompression chamber.
