ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a passenger vessel approximately 20 miles west of the Columbia River entrance, Thursday.
Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a call from the vessel Rampage at approximately 5:30 p.m., reporting a 55-year-old male crewmember experiencing stroke symptoms.
Sector Columbia River launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Wash., and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria.
Both crews arrived on scene and prepared the vessel and crew for a medevac of the ailing crewmember.
The helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer and a rescue litter to the vessel. The motor lifeboat crew worked to retrieve trail lines to keep the Rampage’s propellers clear and on a steady course.
The crew successfully hoisted the man to the helicopter and transported him to Air Station Astoria where he was placed in the care of awaiting EMS.
