Coast Guard medevacs man near Cape Hatteras, NC

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 22-year-old German man from a oil tanker 160 nautical miles south of Cape Hatteras at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

A Carolina Shipping agent for the vessel Seacod contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Carolina at 6:47 p.m, informing them of a man who was suffering from potential symptoms of a stroke.

A Coast Guard HH-60T Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City hoisted the man from the vessel and flew him to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.

A Coast Guard HC-130 airplane crew was also on scene providing cover.

The Seacod is a German flagged vessel measuring 616.7 feet in length.
