Coast Guard medevacs man near Barnegat Light, NJ

29 Cape DissapointmentPHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard medevaced a boater who was experiencing heart attack like symptoms near Barnegat Light, New Jersey, Friday morning .

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay dispatched a 29-foot response boat-small crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light after receiving a distress call from a crew member aboard the 34-foot recreational boat Kelly Ann, which ran aground in Oyster Creek Channel.

The RB-S crew arrived on-scene and transported the 67-year-old man to shore, where he was transferred to emergency medical service personnel.

“Helping people when they need it most is why we are here,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Mikail Ubieta, the responding coxswain. “Having a VHF radio on board allowed the boaters to directly contact us so we could transport him to proper medical care.”

Salvage is pending. The boat does not pose a hazard to navigation.
