Coast Guard Medevacs Man from USNS Samuel Cobb

MONTEREY – At 7:51 a.m., a crew onboard a U.S. Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter, from Air Station San Francisco, conducted a medical evacuation of a 62 year-old-man experiencing extreme abdominal pain onboard the U.S. Navy Ship Samuel Cobb, a Military Sea Lift Vessel, 80 miles west of Monterey.

At 2:30 a.m., Sector San Francisco received the call from the Samuel Cobb 130 miles west of Monterey. Because the Samuel Cobb was out of Coast Guard helicopter range, the military vessel had to steam within 100 miles from shore to conduct the medical evacuation. Once in range, the HH-65 helicopter arrived on scene at 7:30 a.m., with a C-130 fixed wing aircraft, from Air Station Sacramento, providing additional air support.

After airlifting the man, the HH-65 helicopter landed at Monterey Airport to transfer him to an ambulance, from Monterey Peninsula Hospital, at 8:26 a.m.
