ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. —The Coast Guard medevaced a 55-year-old male Philippine national from a 550-foot tanker 13 miles west of Egmont Key, Monday.
At 10:15 a.m. watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a report via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 from crewmembers aboard the tanker, Gaschem Stade. They reported the man was suffering from symptoms of a heart attack aboard the tanker. A flight surgeon was briefed and recommended the man be medevaced.
A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Cortez and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater were launched. The Cortez boatcrew arrived on scene and transferred a Coast Guard member to the tanker to assist.
The Jayhawk aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition for further medical care.
