Coast Guard medevacs man from Ocracoke Island, N.C. during inclement weather

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard assisted Hyde County emergency medical services in the transfer of a 51-year-old male from Ocracoke Island, N.C. to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, N.C. Thursday.

At approximately 8 p.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District Command Center received a call from EMS personnel requesting the medevac of a man with severe chest pains.

The request was made after thunderstorms near Morehead City grounded local life flight and the Marine Corps helicopters.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. was dispatched to transport the man.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. the man was transferred to Carteret General Hospital.
