Coast Guard Medevacs Man From Freighter

MIAMI – A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HH-65 helicopter crew medically evacuated a 30-year-old male from a freighter 80 miles east of Fort Pierce Tuesday afternoon.

The Coast Guard received a call via high-frequency radio from the captain aboard the motor vessel Florence at approximately 2 p.m., alerting them that Bobby Atienza, a Filipino crewmember, was suffering from an infection and needed immediate medical care.

Atienza was safely hoisted from the freighter at 4:26 p.m. by the helicopter crew and was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce where he was reported in stable condition.
