NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, Wednesday, 30 miles south of Marsh Island.

Rescued was Hai Ban Nguyen.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 11:30 a.m., that a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel, Trung Phi, had suffered a chest injury. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C helicopter and crew to the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m. The crew successfully hoisted the man off the Trung Phi and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services at Terrebonne General Medical Center.

The man’s condition is unknown.

The Coast Guard recommends all mariners have a marine-band radio on their vessel. Marine-band radios are a more effective way to communicate with rescue personnel.
