ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a man from an 80-foot fishing vessel approximately 90 miles east of Atlantic City Wednesday.
Coast Guard watchstanders received notification from a crewmember at The Joint Rescue Coordination Center, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is the agency responsible for coordination of marine search and rescue operations emergencies in eastern Canada, reporting they had received a radio transmission stating a man aboard the fishing vessel Mystic Way had injured his hand and was in need of medical attention.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City hoisted the man and transferred him back to the air station where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.
“It felt really good to help him out,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Dave Froehlich, a rescue swimmer from Air Station Atlantic City. “A guy working 90 miles offshore doesn’t have many opportunities for help, so to be on the crew that helped him out felt great.”
