Coast Guard Medevacs Man From Fishing Vessel

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard medevaced a mariner from his fishing vessel in Shelikof Strait on the west side of Kodiak Island this morning.

A rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak picked up the 72-year-old male, master of the fishing vessel (F/V) Viking Star, after receiving a call from the Viking Star requesting medical attention at approximately 9:30 this morning. The rescue crew transported him to Kodiak where he was met by Kodiak Fire and Rescue personnel and they transported the patient to Providence Island Medical Center in Kodiak.

The three remaining crew members took control of the Viking Star after the medical evacuation.

The condition of the patient is unknown at this time.
