Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing boat west of Anclote Key

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopterTAMPA, Fla. – The Coast Guard medevacked a 62-year-old man Tuesday from 27-foot commercial fishing vessel 70 miles west of Anclote Key.

Watch standers at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg Command Center received a call at 2:05 p.m. from the crew of the fishing vessel Fish Box, stating their captain developed symptoms of a heart attack. The watch standers directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew.

“The rapid and effective communication by the crew of the Fish Box allowed us to get resources on-scene quickly, hoist this gentleman and get him the medical assistance he needed,” said Lt. Paul Simpson, an operational unit controller at Sector St. Petersburg.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the patient and flew him to Tampa General Hospital.
