Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing boat 60 miles south of San Diego

AN DIEGO – An aircrew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a man who experienced symptoms of a possible heart attack aboard a sport fishing boat 60 miles south of San Diego Monday morning.

The crew of the 124-foot fishing vessel Excel contacted the Joint Harbor Operations Center at approximately 1 a.m., stating that a 71-year-old man aboard the boat was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac. Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the man and transported him to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., at approximately 3:20 a.m.
