SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 47-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately 9 miles southwest of Point Loma, San Diego, Saturday morning.
The crew of the cruise ship Ruby Princess contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders at approximately 11:35 p.m., Friday reporting that a crewmember was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.
The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched at approximately 1 a.m., arrived on scene, then hoisted the man into the helicopter at approximately 2:05 a.m.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 2:45 a.m., where the patient was transferred to awaiting EMS and later taken to UCSD Health – Hillcrest Hospital in San Diego.
