8th Coast Guard District NewsNEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a cruise ship 180 miles south of Southwest Pass, Wednesday, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Medevaced was Plamen Merdzhanov.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a call at approximately 12 p.m., that Merdzhanov, who was a passenger aboard the Carnival Elation, reportedly had an eye infection that could potentially lead to vision loss.
