Coast Guard medevacs man from cruise ship Carnival Elation 60 miles off Southwest Pass

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a 68-year-old male passenger aboard a cruise ship approximately 60 miles south of Southwest Pass in the Gulf of Mexico, Sunday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report at approximately 5 a.m. that the cruise ship Carnival Elation required a medevac for a man reportedly suffering from symptoms associated with cardiac arrest.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the ship at approximately 8 p.m. The crew successfully hoisted the man from the ship. A nurse accompanied the patient aboard and was transported to LSU Medical Center.

His condition was unknown.
