Coast Guard medevacs man from Holland America cruise ship Ryndam

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 46-year-old male from a cruise ship approximately 120-miles southwest of St. Petersburg, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Saturday.

Medical personnel aboard the Holland America cruise ship Ryndam, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., command center at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, reporting that Andrew Spicer, was suffering from injuries after a fall aboard the ship, and was in need of medical evacuation for further treatment.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg search-and-rescue coordinators directed the launch of an HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., at approximately 7:05 p.m. The aircrew arrived onscene at approximately 8:00 p.m., and safely hoisted Spicer aboard the aircraft.

Spicer was trsnsferred to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla., at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Spicer’s condition is unknown.
