Coast Guard medevacs man from cruise ship

NEW ORLEANS- The Coast Guard medevaced a 44 year-old man off of the Carnival Cruise ship Fantasy approximately 200 miles southeast of New Orleans today.

A watchstander at the Eighth Coast Guard District Command Center received a call at approximately 1:20 p.m., from a crewmember aboard the Fantasy, stating that a passenger aboard the ship was suffering from abdominal pains.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans crews launched a HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew to the scene, safely hoisted and transported him to medical personnel at West Jefferson Hospital in Marrero, La.

His condition is unknown.
