CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a man from a fishing boat about 40 miles east of Chincoteague just after 12 p.m. Saturday.

The crew of the fishing boat Gulfstream contacted Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders at 10:15 a.m. stating that a 24-year-old man aboard had collapsed on deck while shucking scallops and was in and out of consciousness. The Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended that a medevac by helicopter be conducted.

Coast Guard 5th District watchstanders diverted an Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew from a training flight in the area. They hoisted the man aboard and transported him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
