Coast Guard medevacs man approximately 30 miles off Morehead City, NC

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 60-year-old man off a ship approximately 30 miles east of Morehead City, N.C., Monday.

A member with the Ship Arrival Notification System called Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 6:15 p.m. reporting that a passenger aboard the 266-foot cargo ship Svendborg had fallen and suffered head trauma.

Crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City in Elizabeth City, N.C. and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon in Fort Macon, N.C., launched to assist.

Two crewmembers aboard the MLB boarded the Svendborg and a rescue swimmer from the Jayhawk was lowered to assist the injured man.

The man was hoisted from the Svendborg to the Jayhawk and transported to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
