Coast Guard medevacs injured shrimp fisherman

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 51-year old male from a shrimp boat 40 miles south of Point Au Fer Island, La., in the Gulf of Mexico today.

The Coast Guard received a call from the captain of the shrimp boat, Joan Maria 4, reporting that a crewmember had crushed his arm while trying to tie another boat alongside the vessel. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans diverted an HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans from its patrol to assist. The Dolphin crew safely hoisted the man and transported him to Terrebone General Medical Center.

The condition of the man in unknown.
