Coast Guard medevacs injured sailor

SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard transported an injured sailor from a Navy ship on Monday morning.

A crew from Aids to Navigation team (ANT) San Diego overheard radio communications between Sector San Diego and the USS Milius requesting that a crewmember who was suffering from head trauma and drifting in and out of consciousness, receive an immediate medical evacuation.

The ANT diverting from their mission, volunteered to transport the sailor along with a corpsman from the ship back to Sector where EMS was standing by.

“The Coast Guard boat crew did an excellent job of quickly switching from one mission which was ATON, a non-emergency situation, right into an emergency situation, ” Said Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Tapp, the Officer in Charge of ANT San Diego. “They were able to provide assistance to the U.S. Navy and potentially save a life.”
