Coast Guard medevacs injured man off tanker ship

ALAMEDA, Calif. – A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, from Air Station San Francisco, conducted a medevac early this morning off the coast of Monterey.

The master of the vessel British Oak, a 729-foot tanker vessel, requested a medevac after one of his crewmembers injured his hand in a water-tight door. A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the evacuation in efforts to prevent further damage to the injured hand.

The rescue crew launched from the air station at approximately 5 a.m. today. The crew rendezvoused with the British Oak 11 miles west of Monterey Bay. The injured crewmember was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.

The condition of the injured crewmember is unknown at this time.
