Coast Guard medevacs injured man in Gulf of Mexico

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a bulk carrier in the Gulf of Mexico 55 miles south of South West Pass, La., Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 4 p.m., that a male aboard the Conti Shanghai, a 794-foot bulk carrier, had reportedly sustained an injury to his left hand while working on deck.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew to the scene. The crew successfully hoisted the man off the Conti Shanghai and transported him to awaiting emergency medical personnel at Air Station New Orleans.

The man was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La., for treatment.

The man’s condition is unknown.
