NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a sailing vessel approximately 60 miles southwest of Grand Isle, La., Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a report from the Houston Police Department of numerous help alerts from an alert beacon aboard the S/V Gaelic Breeze, which was transiting from Florida to Texas.
After investigating the alert, Sector Houston/Galveston was able to determine the location of the vessel and notified Sector New Orleans, who launched an Air Station New Orleans MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew. The helicopter and crew arrived on scene at 1:35 p.m., safely hoisted the man, then transported him to Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.
His condition is unknown.
