Coast Guard Medevacs Injured Hiker From Ripikski Mountain

JUNEAU, Alaska – An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew medevaced Keith Hutchins who contacted Alaska State Troopers after he was injured while hiking on Ripinski Mountain near Haines Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011.  Juneau Mountain Rescue also assisted in the rescue effort and is a volunteer, nonprofit, educational corporation providing technical search and rescue assistance for the Southeast Alaska area. JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers and Juneau Mountain Rescue worked together today to rescue an injured hiker from Ripikski Mountain near Haines, Alaska.

Keith Hutchins contacted Alaska State Troopers after he was injured while hiking above 1,600 feet on the mountain. The Alaska State Troopers coordinated the search effort with the Coast Guard and Juneau Mountain Rescue. Juneau Mountain Rescue is a volunteer, nonprofit, educational corporation providing technical search and rescue assistance for the Southeast Alaska area.

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew medevaced Hutchins and transported him to awaiting emergency medical personnel at the Juneau International Airport who transferred him to Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.

Juneau Mountain Rescue is a volunteer, nonprofit, educational corporation providing technical search and rescue assistance for the Southeast Alaska area.
