Coast Guard medevacs injured diver near San Clemente Island

SAN DIEGO — An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego conducted a medevac for an injured diver near San Clemente Island Saturday morning.

The 40-year-old woman was diving with a group off the motor vessel Horizon approximately two miles from Pyramid Cove on San Clememte Island when she became unresponsive.

The Horizon’s crew contacted the Coast Guard at 8:15 a.m., stating that the woman had become unresponsive shortly into the dive and was helped to the surface by other divers. She regained consciousness aboard the boat, but it was determined that she required a higher level of medical care.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego and arrived on scene with the Horizon at approximately 9 a.m.

The aircrew hoisted the woman from the boat and transported her to San Diego, where she was transferred to emergency medical personnel.

Coast Guard investigators are looking into the incident.
