Coast Guard medevacs Injured crewman

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year old man from a vessel approximately 15-miles southwest of Venice, La., this morning.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans received the call at 10:20 a.m., from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, reporting that the crewman had been working near a crane and had been injured when the crane moved suddenly. The crewman was reported to have abdominal and leg injuries, as well as internal bleeding.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans crews launched an HH-65C Rescue Helicopter crew, arrived on scene and transported the injured crewman safely to the Superdome helicopter platform, where he was transferred to waiting Emergency Medical Services personnel and taken to Charity Hospital.
