Coast Guard medevacs ill crewman from tanker

SAN DIEGO — An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a 57-year-old Filipino man from an oil tanker approximately 35 miles west of Oceanside, Wednesday afternoon.

The crew of the 1,077-foot oil tanker Front Stratus contacted the Coast Guard at 10:38 a.m., requesting assistance for the man who was experiencing signs of a possible stroke.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego, hoisted the man from the Liberian-flagged tanker and transported him to Sector San Diego.

Emergency medical personnel met the returning aircrew at approximately 12:50 p.m., and transported the man to the hospital.
