Coast Guard Medevacs Hoonah Woman

SITKA, Alaska – A rescue helicopter from Air Station Sitka was launched Monday night to conduct a medical evacuation of a 49-year-old woman from Hoonah.

The crew battled 40-knot winds throughout most of the flight from a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska. The winds, with gusts to 55-knots, created strong turbulence during the transit through Southeast Alaska’s mountainous terrain.

The helicopter returned to Sitka where the patient was transferred to Sitka EMS personnel for further transport to Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) hospital.
