Coast Guard medevacs heart attack victim off North Carolina

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard aircrew transported a 57-year-old woman from a cruise ship 56 nautical miles east of Cape Hatteras, N.C., to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Sunday morning due to a possible heart attack.

The crew of the Carnival Pride contacted Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders at about 7:35 a.m. requesting the medevac after speaking with a cardiologist. A Coast Guard flight surgeon concurred with the decision and an MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter crew from Elizabeth City, N.C., was deployed. At the request of the flight surgeon, the nurse aboard the Carnival Pride accompanied the woman to Sentara.

The woman was delivered to the hospital at 11:10 a.m. Her current condition is unknown.
