Coast Guard medevacs freighter crewman outside of Cleveland Harbor

CLEVELAND - A Coast Guard rescue boatcrew returns to Station Cleveland Harbor here after medically evacuating an injured crewmember from the motor vessel American Integrity in Lake Erie, Monday, April 4, 2011. The station boatcrew transported Fredrick Funck, 61, to shore after the crew of the American Integrity contacted the Coast Guard at 8:23 a.m. and reported Funck had sustained an injury to his hand while working onboard the 1,000-foot, U.S.-flagged bulk carrier. The station boatcrew medevaced Fredrick Funck, 61, to shore after the crew of the American Integrity contacted the Coast Guard at 8:23 a.m., and reported Funck had sustained an injury to his hand while working onboard the 1,000-foot, U.S.-flagged bulk carrier.

Funck was delivered into the care of emergency medical technicians upon their arrival at Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor.

The boatcrew met the freighter outside of the Cleveland Harbor breakwall shortly after they called for help around 8:30 a.m., transferred the man to the RB-S, and brought him to Station Cleveland Harbor where emergency medical technicians were waiting to take him to a local hospital for treatment.
