Coast Guard Medevacs Fisherman

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The Coast Guard medevaced a fisherman who was complaining of chest pains 25 miles northeast of the Brazos Santiago Pass jetties earlier this evening.

Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a mayday call at approximately 4:30 p.m. from the master of the fishing vessel Miss Verna reporting that one of the crewmembers was complaining of chest pains.

The crew of the 87-foot Coast Guard Patrol Boat Amberjack was in the area conducting a routine patrol when the call was received and was first to arrive on scene. The Amberjack’s crew stabilized the man for transport. Coast Guard Station South Padre Island also dispatched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew to assist.

The fisherman was transported back to Coast Guard Station South Padre Island with the crew of the 47-foot boat where ambulance crews were waiting to treat him. The fisherman was taken to Valley Regional and was reported to be in stable condition.
