Coast Guard Medevacs Fisherman Off South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a fisherman aboard a 52-foot fishing vessel 40-miles east of Georgetown, S.C., at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday.

Todd Long, 42, residence unknown, was aboard the Maximum Retriever, based out of Murrells Inlet, S.C., when he started to experience chest pains. The vessel contacted the Coast Guard and requested assistance.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin to assist. Long was transferred to the Yellowfin and then hoisted aboard a Coast Guard helicopter and taken to Georgetown Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The Cutter Yellowfin is an 87-foot patrol boat from Charleston.
