Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Galveston

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard medevac a 54-year-old man from a fishing boat approximately five miles south of Galveston, Texas, today.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call at 3 p.m. from the captain of the fishing boat Stolt C, reporting that a crewmember needed immediately medical attention. The fisherman had been accidentally sprayed in the face with the chemical caustic soda. The Coast Guard launched a HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston and a rescue boat crew from Station Galveston.

The rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene at 3:45 p.m., hoisted the injured fisherman, and safely transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
