Coast Guard medevacs fisherman from Dutch Harbor

17th Coast Guard District NewsKODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules aircrew medevaced a 26-year-old male from Dutch Harbor to Anchorage Thursday.

The crew of the 116-foot Constellation contacted Coast Guard Communication Station Kodiak watchstanders at about 5 p.m. Wednesday reporting a crewmember had suffered head injuries from a fall while the vessel was transiting through 10-foot seas about 45 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.

The Coast Guard District 17 watchstanders diverted the Hercules crew from a training flight to meet the Constellation crew in Dutch Harbor to take the injured man to Anchorage for further medical treatment.

The Constellation crew arrived in Dutch Harbor at about 10:30 p.m. and safely transferred the patient to awaiting emergency medical services. The EMS transferred the patient to the airplane with a nurse from the Dutch Harbor clinic to provide in flight medical treatment.

The Hercules crew arrived at Elmendorf Air Force Base at 2:15 a.m. and were met by awaiting EMS who took the patient to Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage for further medical treatment.
