NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a 72-year-old-man from a fishing vessel seven miles south of Venice in the Gulf of Mexico, Monday.
Medevaced was George Hill.
The fishing vessel contacted Coast Guard Station Venice on VHF-FM channel 16 at approximately 11:20 a.m., reporting that a crewmember was suffering symptoms associated with a heart attack. The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended immediate medevac.
A 25-foot Response Boat — Small and crew from Station Venice located the vessel and transferred the man aboard. The boatcrew transported him to awaiting emergency medical personnel at Station Venice, who transported him to Ochsner Hospital.
“The Coast Guard is always listening to channel 16,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Lefman, a crewmember at Station Venice. “If you use that channel, the Coast Guard will hear you and respond.”
The man was reportedly in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
