The fisherman, a crewmember aboard the Monomoy,a 90-foot fishing vessel based out of New Bedford, Mass., complained of breathing difficulty at around 4 p.m., today.
Search and rescue coordinators from Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound arranged for a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to transfer the individual to a medical facility on Long Island.
The rescue helicopter arrived shortly after. The rescue diver aboard the helicopter was lowered by winch onto the Monomoy and placed the ailing crewmember into a winch controlled rescue basket, which was raised into the helicopter. The fisherman was flown to awaiting local EMS and was then transported to a hospital on Long Island, N.Y.
